40 Watt Mono Valve amps. Based on original Quad II circuit using KT88 output valves: An excellent Tim De Paravicini revised design for the modern age
I am a definite fan of this Quad valve amplifier range. I sometimes think back to dashing out at short notice, trying to grab a set of Quad IIs with the preamp (before someone else did) after we spotted them cheap in the classifieds!! I bet we paid no more than a couple of hundred quid for a full set!! Those were the days eh... Well am pleased to say they are not over - not completely anyway. Tony, Phonostage Audio
This range of Quad amplifiers are superb. Better in fact than the originals in most respects with more power, larger power valves, more robust power supply, more refinements and reliability, improved components (such as military grade preamp valves) - and safer!! These amps are designed to last a lifetime.
We are authorised Quad retailers and we are obsessed with HiFi. We have a range of Quad equipment on demo here at Phonostage Audio and we really love their products. Please ask us if you have any questions about any of them.
The Quad II Forty is essentially based on the topology of the original Quad II valve amplifiers, however they have been brought up to modern standards of safety and performance whilst keeping tight hold of their heritage and design principles.
The Quad II-forty power amplifier is much more than a tribute to one of the most famous designs in audio – but refined and powerful in the modern sense of the terms. Although the circuit topology has changed a little from the original, significantly better components and a brand new transformer design have been engineered. While still being delicately balanced a fast, crisp and detailed sound is achieved, whilst producing an output current suitable for modern loudspeakers, including Quad'svery own ESL. KT-88 output valves work in a push-pull configuration, while a choice of 4 Ohm or 8 Ohm taps allows for a wide choice of loudspeaker configurations.
This listing is for one pair of amplifiers in Lancaster grey finish.
